The Uxbridge Arms Hotel, as it was known back then, was built in 1794 by the 2nd Earl of Uxbridge. The Earl’s heroic efforts at The Battle of Waterloo earned him his rightful place in history. During the 1800’s the hotel was the host of lavish balls and entertainment for the Adelphi Society. In 1832 Queen Victoria and her mother stayed in the hotel, in her honour the hotel was renamed the Royal Hotel.
